Travis Smilen (Born January 14, 1988) is an American Guitarist, Arranger, Composer and Producer who plays Jazz, Rock, Latin, Funk, Pop, R&B, Jazz Manouche and Flamenco music. Growing up in South Florida, Travis acquired much of his Jazz knowledge from playing on the music scene and studying at Palm Beach State College. In June 2009, he decided to enlist in the United States Navy Band. After completing basic training and graduating from the Navy School of Music, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he was deployed on 2 humanitarian missions throughout Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands as a guitarist and auxiliary percussionist.
In 2013, Travis was left with a decision to re-enlist or leave the military service. Weighing all of his options, he decided to pursue his Master’s degree in Contemporary Performance at Berklee College of Music from 2014-2015 in Valencia, Spain. At this great institution, he was able to study with great professors such as Polo Orti, Israel Sandavol, Victor Mendoza, Gary Willis and Perico Sambeat. After studying at Berklee, he wanted to stay in Spain and study the traditional Spanish Flamenco music. Now you can find Travis Smilen recording, teaching classes and giving concerts with various groups of various styles including his own projects.
